Sandra van Gasteren
Animator, notekeeper, project manager
|
Sandra was project manager of this team and made sure tasks were being distributed, notes were being made during feedback sessions with the teachers and the team members, and she also worked on animations of the main character (McDoogle) and the golem.
Character Animations
Here she shows some of the animations she did on the main character's ears, arms, hand and finger animations.
In this playblast you don't see the final grass, because it has not been rendered yet. Animated in Maya 2014, and the flower petals were added in Composite. |

Sandra worked here on the hands, head, ears, arms and facial expression. Body movement was from an earlier scene version and she proceeded to polish it further. Facial animations have also been polished even further by Derk.

Sandra did the animations for this scene, however, body movement was taken from one of Derk's file, because Sandra's movements were not readable enough.
This version of this shot has not been used in final animatic. In this playblast you don't see the final grass, because it has not been rendered yet. Animated in Maya 2014. |

Sandra animated the part where the main character peeks through his fingers to see if he hasn't died yet.
Final animation you see in the animatic at the homepage has even further body movements. In this playblast you don't see the final grass, because it has not been rendered yet. Animated in Maya 2014. |

Here she animated the part where the golem sort of dances/bounces from left to right, but it didn't have that oomph that we wanted for an ending.
This animation was not used in the final animatic. In this playblast you don't see the final grass, because it has not been rendered yet. Animated in Maya 2014. |

Here she tweaked the part where the golem put the feather on his head. It had to have a pause just before he puts it on his head, and then she tried to make him look like he's in love with his newest hat.
Reference I used for this was from Snow monster from Frozen This animation was not used in the final animatic. In this playblast you don't see the environment and anything else, this is purely focussed on the animations of the golem. Animated in Maya 2014. |

other animations
Bird animations. Derk did the animating of the UVs, Sandra created a more logical path for the birds to follow.
The goal was to animate the birds in such a way, as if they were sitting in a field and then suddenly be startled. This was animated in Maya 2014, and added in post-production with Composite. |

Tree animations for shot 1. Animated with clusters, but not used at this point in the final animatic.
Animated in Maya 2014. |

Tree animations for shot 3. Animated with clusters, but not used at this point in the final animatic.

Documentation
In the production block, we used Google Docs to keep track of what still needed to be done, who was working on it and for how long.
At first, this worked, but after a few weeks, when the list kept growing, and we were losing track of things, we decided we should do it differently in the post-production block.
We then decided to use Trello. This is an easy-to-use website, where you can create a board, containing cards, and each card can contain a checklist, or a file, and you can assign members to it. If a card (a task) has been finished, it can be moved to the "Done" category, and to keep the board up to date, you can also archive old cards.
Sandra created the document on Google Docs, and after the production phase, she also created a lot of the cards and assigned people to it.

Production phase feedback
These are notes that Sandra took during feedback sessions with teachers and other points of critique other team members gave us. These were made during the production phase (Block B, class: AVA4)

Composition tips
At one point Sandra did some setdressing/composition quality checks and she made some pictures with info that still needed to be added to the shots. Derk then took this task over from her.

Worklog
This is Sandra's worklog with every task she did and for how long she worked on it. A worklog wasn't necessary, but Sandra always like to keep track of how many hours she spents on a certain task.
Note: every student was supposed to put at least +/- 140 hours into this project.
